a long lasting investment
I was dreaming last night, about an ‘investment’ that will give you profits more than you can imagine. I was wondering what kinda investment it is; & thinking about some business plan. But then, when my dream went on, it slapped me for being stupid because I only thought about money, money, and money. People need money for live, and I’m lacking money right now, no wonder I think about it too much..
But the investment I’m talking about isn’t for economical profit, but more about life. The investment goes for our lives, and will last for our children, and our grand children, and our grand grand children, and so on… What is it?
It is a simple priceless thing we’ve forgotten these days. Plant some trees! How could I not consider about planting trees for a life time investment? Maybe that’s why those politicians & governments forgot how important keeping trees is.
Instead of making green spaces inside the city, the make shopping malls. Instead of keeping the rainforests, they cut the trees down & get much money. You get the money, but lost one breath guys. What’s so great of it? Getting money by cutting trees, which will cut your future life? What’s so great of wearing branded fashion items or riding expensive limited edition cars but hardly breathing? Humans are selfish, and so am I.
Well, planting trees is not the only choice. There are lots of things we can do for our future investment, such as studying something and share it to others; helping others who need our helps when we are able to; be a good person, even if other people hate us; forgiving people’s faults; and lots of other simple good things that have been disappearing day by day.
Doing good things might not always bring money straight to your face, but it is a long lasting investment for your life – and after life.
an inconvenient life
I had finished my lunch & intended to turn off the TV, when suddenly I saw Al Gore in a film titled ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. It was a 2006 movie, but I’ve never watched it, actually. Global warming is a serious issue for me, so I delayed my intention of turning the TV off & sat on the couch, watching the film.
It stunned me. Kaget rasanya melihat perhitungan-perhitungan yg dibuat 2 tahun lalu mulai kelihatan ‘bentuk’nya. Terutama bagian angin topan & badai yang akhir-akhir ini mendadak beken di layar kaca & surat kabar. Prediksinya sangat akurat!
Sedih juga melihat gletser yg lenyap, gunung es yang hancur, beruang kutub yang mati kelelahan berenang akibat nggak menemukan pijakan karena gunung es mencair… Bahkan muncul ubur-ubur raksasa (diameternya mencapai 1,8 meter) di perairan Jepang gara-gara suhu laut meningkat! Belum lagi statistik polusi udara yang naik tajam – mana aku baru melihat langsung lapisan polusi itu dari pesawat… Mengerikan.
Manusia memang perusak. Teknologi kok malah menghancurkan habitat sih? Mempermudah tapi merusak masa depan, mengancam punah spesiesnya sendiri. Mempermudah aktivitas tapi mempersulit hidup. Sedihnya…
Rasanya ingin melakukan sesuatu untuk menyelamatkan lingkungan. Ingin mengurangi karbon di atmosfer. Ingin menumbuhkan lagi hutan-hutan yang gundul. Ingin mengembalikan es yang mencair. Ingin ini, ingin itu, tapi sebenarnya tidak bisa berbuat apa-apa. Aku cuma bisa melakukan hal-hal yang kecil, selebihnya disepelekan orang. Kalau sama teman sendiri -sesama ITB- masih lumayan gampang menekankan pentingnya hemat energi dsb, tapi begitu ketemu orang ‘luar’… Mereka cuma menertawakan, menyepelekan, menganggap itu nggak penting… Hhhh…
Sekarang aku jadi sangat mengagumi Al Gore. Dia nggak bosan-bosannya menyampaikan presentasi, membeberkan fakta, mendorong masyarakat untuk menyadari pentingnya ‘menyelamatkan’ bumi. Yang aku nggak ngerti, apa sih yang ada di pikiran politisi-politisi itu? Apa yang ada di pikiran investor-investor itu? Kok ya seenaknya cari untung sambil merusak bumi. Memangnya mereka mau apa kalau yang terisa di bumi ini tinggal uang? Nggak bisa lagi beli air bersih, rumput, pohon, hewan ternak, dsb. Mereka mau makan apa? Uang? Minum uang?
Bukan lagi kenyataan yg nggak nyaman, sekarang ini hidup sudah sangat nggak nyaman! Bayangkan, begitu keluar rumah aku dihadang teriknya sinar matahari – yang katanya terperangkap dalam atmosfer. Jalan kaki sedikit sudah terasa terbakar. Begitu mencapai jalan raya, debu & asap knalpot menyembur ke mukaku. Batuk-batuklah aku. Naik kendaraan umum, terpapar asap rokok -sungguh derita perokok pasif!
Ah, memang bumi ini semakin tidak nyaman ditinggali…
